Licensed Materials - Property of IBM. ************************************************************************** FILE: RELEASE IBM 2210 Nways Multiprotocol Routing Services Configuration Program Version 3.4 is a replacement for IBM Nways Multiprotocol Routing Services Configuration Program Version 3.3. New Functions: The list of new functions can be found by: 1. Selecting the following URL: http://www.networking.ibm.com/support/code.nsf/DocRef/DI2400 2. Select the product 2210. 3. Select 2210 Operational Code 4. Select MRS V3.4->New Functions in the Release Migration Considerations: The Configuration Program may only use router readable(cfg) files created by the corequisite version of the router software or the same Configuration Program. In order to migrate to a later release of the Configuration Program and router code, you must migrate to the new release format of configuration file. If the only copy of the configuration is either in the router or in binary format (.cfg files), you must use the version of the configuration program that created the configuration to create the configuration database file(CSF). The CSF file, which holds a single configuration, is an individual file which can be easily copied and transported between disks and subdirectories using operating system commands. Creating Configuration Database Files To create the configuration database file: 1. Start the version of the configuration program which matches the version of the Config Program or Router Software which created it. 2. Select READ ROUTER CONFIGURATION to read the existing configuration into the configuration program. Another way to load an existing configuration into the program is to select COMMUNICATION, SINGLE, and then RETRIEVE from the Configuration menu. 3. Select 'Save configuration' or 'Save configuration as' from the Configure menu. Converting a Configuration File (CDB) to the Configuration Storage Format (CSF) All the configuration database files (.CDB) from prior to MRS V3.1 must be converted to the Configuration Storage format (also known as CSF) via the Conversion program. The program presents you with a dialog in which you specify which configuration database files you want to convert. 1. Start the Conversion Program AIX 1. Change to the directory that contains the Configuration Program. 2. Type converter and press ENTER. Note: Refer to the Hardware and Software Requirements for AIX on font requirements for the Conversion Program. OS/2 1. Locate and open the Configuration Program folder. 2. Double-click on the Conversion Program icon to start the program. Windows 1. Select the Configuration Program under Windows, select start->Programs->folder->Conversion Tool 2. Enter the directory that contains the database file in the field, Directory containing CDB. 3. Select whether you want to convert all configuration database or selected configurations, proceed with step 4, otherwise proceed to step 5. 4. Select the configuration you want to convert from the Convert Configs list. 5. Specify the directory that will contain the output files (in CSF) 6. Select Convert. The program will then convert the specified configurations into separate configuration files in the Configuration Storage Directory (also known as CSD) 7. Proceed to next step to migrate the in CSF files created in step (6), Migrating a Configuration from an earlier to later release. 1. Start the later version of the Configuration Program. 2. Select 'Open configuration' from the Configure menu. Select the directory where the earlier release configuration exists from the Path window and pick the configuration to migrate/upgrade from the Available configurations list. 3. Select Open. The Configuration Program will then ask if you wish to migrate the configuration to the current version. 4. Select 'Save configuration as' to save the configuration to a new file with a new name. This allow you to keep the existing configuration file for future use. Restrictions: This section discusses some KEY considerations that users must be aware of when creating valid configurations. - You MUST make sure that TCP/IP is installed and RUNNING before using the "Communications Single" and/or "Communications Multiple" functions. On some platforms, the Configuration Program will hang if TCP/IP is not installed and running. - The Configuration Program does not currently support DECnet V/OSI. Again, the Configuration Program will preserve this configuration information when retrieved from the router and send it back with the next send. - The SDLC Relay function is not supported on the Configuration Programs. Note: The Configuration Program DOES NOT preserve the SDLC Relay data. - The "Null Device" condition is not supported when creating a Router Configuration File. However, the Configuration Program will read a configuration that contains a "Null Device". A message will be displayed indicating this condition has occurred and that the configuration needs to be corrected before a router configuration file can be created. NOTE: The "Null Device" condition might be caused by either of the following events: (1) An adapter was removed from the router without updating the configuration. (2) A software load was installed on the router which does not support a previously installed adapter, and the configuration for that router was not updated. - If more than one user will be accessing the AIX Configuration Program on the same machine then the permissions of the commands.log file will need to be set so that all users can write to the file. This file resides in the directory where the Configuration Program is installed and is created on the first invocation of the Configuration Program. Known Issues - Panel Display Problem on AIX On AIX, there is a known panel distortion problem on lower resolution monitors. If panels look distorted, buttons (add, change, delete buttons) or fields appear missing, please reduce the font size set on your AIX system. How to change fonts on your AIX system From your AIX 'Common Desktop Environment', click the 'Style Manager' icon on your Front Panel. Click on 'Font', you will see a list of Relative font sizes available on your system. Change the font size to a smaller one, then restart the Configuration Program. - Exit with error 34 message when attempting to start the Configuration Program. This is an AIX only issue. This messages indicates that there is not enough space in the /tmp directory for the product to be able to start. To avoid this issue either delete unnecessary files in the /tmp directory or use SMIT to allocate more space to the /tmp directory. THIS DOCUMENT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
